New photo 31 union bosses earn more than £100k per year, placing them in the top 5% and deemed ‘rich’ by the Shadow Chancellor

THIRTY-ONE trade union bosses have pay deals worth more than £100,000, we can reveal.

The fat cats would be deemed “rich” by shadow Chancellor John McDonnell who labels salaries above £70,000 as wealthy.

A rich list of public sector union chiefs published by the Taxpayers’ Alliance comes as the Trades Union Congress starts in Manchester today (Sun).

The highest paid is Paul Whiteman who leads the National Association of Headteachers whose total remuneration topped £212,000 last year.

Frances O’Grady, the general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, received £174,999.

Meanwhile, four staff at railway unions received just short of £500,000.

Chris Keates, who runs the women teachers’ union received £154,460 in pay and bonuses.

John O’Connell, Chief Executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance said: “These union bosses, who constantly make remarks about the gap between the rich and the poor in society, are comfortably in the top 5% of earners in Britain.

“Let’s hope they haven’t lost touch with their members with their high salaries.”
