DUBBED ‘France’s Frank Sinatra’ Charles Aznavour was best known for his hit song She.
The legendary French tenor was 94 when he died and enjoyed a career that produced more than 1,000 songs.
Who was Charles Aznavour?
Aznavour was born Shahnour Varinag Aznavourian in Paris to Armenian parents, and sold more than 100 million records in 80 countries.
At only 5 foot 3 inches, the man was an unlikely heartthrob.
Described as “France’s Frank Sinatra”, he had a range of hit songs in multiple languages, including Toi Et Moi, La Mama and For Me Formidable.
He wrote more than 1,300 songs and recorded over 1,400 during his long carrier, and sung in eight languages.
In 2017 Aznavour was awarded his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He also served as Armenia’s ambassador to Switzerland in the past.
In 2017, Aznavour and his son, Nicolas Aznavour, established the Aznavour Foundation, which focuses on educational, social and cultural programs in Armenia.
He married three times and had six children.

Aznavour began his career peddling his music to French artists of the 1940s and 1950s such as Edith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier and Charles Trenet.
How did he die?
Charles Aznavour was due to take on a seven-date tour across France and Switzerland, starting in November this year.
He had recently returned from a tour in Japan, having been forced to cancel concerts this summer due to a broken arm.
Aznavour died at his home in Alpilles, south-east France, at the age of 94, a representative for the singer said.
