THERESA May warned that Labour risks sending Britain “back to square one” on Brexit.

With growing pressure on Jeremy Corbyn to back a second referendum, the PM blasted MPs trying to exploit the talks stalemate for political gain.

Mrs May, who has ruled out a re-run of the 2016 vote, declared: “Now is the time for cool heads. And it is a time to hold our nerve.”

She called on all sides to stop playing political games and unite to “do what is right for Britain”.

Speaking as Labour gathered in Liverpool for its annual rally, she said: “I have said many times that these negotiations would be tough and they were bound to be toughest in the final straight.

“But what’s also clear is that many in Labour, the Lib Dems and SNP are trying to thwart Brexit at every step and seeking to exploit this moment for political gain.

“Some are openly advocating a second referendum and extending Article 50 to delay Brexit, sending us right back to square one.

“Others are talking directly to the EU to undermine the UK’s negotiating position.
