Peter Andre has expressed that he is 'making sure his kids are protected' in wake of their mother, Katie Price's recent erratic behaviour.

Talking to OK! Magazine, the singer and TV star said: 'I’m dealing with everything that’s going on at the moment, but I think it’s very important to deal with these things privately and I’m doing so.

'Making sure my kids are protected and away from any negativity is my main priority.'

His ex-wife - and mother to his eldest children Junior, 13 and Princess, 11 - has been seen partying abroad in recent weeks, missing the kids' return to school and attracting plenty of negative attention.

Of the headlines she has been the subject of, Peter, 45, said: 'I try to be as honest as I can be, but I do try and find a way to divert it. I just want to keep the kids protected.'

Peter spoke to the publication as he whisked Junior and Princess off on vacation before starting at their new secondary school. The trio braved the wildest rides at Universal Studios Florida, went crab fishing and swam with manatees.

Dad-of-four Peter also recently revealed that his plane had to make an emergency landing on way back from Orlando after a woman died mid-flight. He revealed in his new! Magazine column: 'A lady on our place sadly lost her life. It happened so suddenly.

He added: 'She and her husband were travelling to the UK to visit family, and my thoughts go out to them all.'

The sad news comes a week after family man Peter opened up about his kids' first day in high school, admitting that he burst out crying when they got out the car.

He and his wife Emily took Princess and Junior to school last Thursday - while their mother   partied with her latest toyboy lover Alex Adderson, 25, in Mallorca.   

The Mysterious Girl singer revealed the youngsters explicitly warned him 'not to get emotional' on the way there - but said he couldn't 'hold it in' on the day.

'It was J and P's first day at high school last Thursday and they looked incredibly grown-up in their uniforms,' he wrote in his column.

'Emily and I drove them in but I was under strict instructions not to get emotional -otherwise they said they would pretend I wasn't their dad. Charming!'

He added: 'Somehow I managed to hold it in, but as soon as they were out of the car, that was me gone.' 

Peter took to Instagram to post a sweet snap of Junior and Princess, stood in front of their front door, clad in coordinating school uniforms and smiling widely.

Peter continued in his chat to OK!: 'Emily’s a great mum and a great stepmum. She’s a very calming influence on everyone. We have a harmonious home'

He wrote: 'And here they go. Very first day at High School. They said if I get emotional they're gonna tell everyone I'm not their dad. I'm like "I can't help the pollen count." Good luck kids,' followed by a smiley face. 

In June, it was revealed that Princess and Junior were living with Peter, as Katie dealt with her split from Kieran Hayler.

The 40-year-old star split with her husband, with whom she has four-year-old son Jett and three-year-old daughter Bunny, in August 2017, and in order to ease the stress put on her brood, Princess and Junior moved in with their dad.

A spokesperson confirmed that Katie, who is also mother to 16-year-old son Harvey, and Peter 'agreed it best' for their children.

They added: 'What is important [is] that the focus is on what is best for the children during tough times as Peter has acknowledged. Katie is a remarkable mother, Peter is a wonderful father, together they are doing what is best for their children.'

Peter continued in his chat to OK!: 'Emily’s a great mum and a great stepmum. She’s a very calming influence on everyone. We have a harmonious home.

'Look, nothing’s perfect and there are tough times in life, but it’s how you deal with it that counts. Things can be pretty hardcore but you just have to deal with things.

'Emily’s unbelievable. All the kids are at different ages and stages and ask different questions. J and P actually call her Mary Poppins!

'Emily did all the orders for their uniforms and she got her tape measure out and did all the children's measurements. She’s awesome, she puts all the labels in their clothes – she’s very practical, but I took them to try clothes on and that was a fun day. We’re very hands-on.'
