New photo Model's mother tells of heartbreak over son's murder as killers face jail

A male model who knifed his more successful fashion rival to death in west London has been jailed for at least 25 years.

Harry Uzoka, 25, was murdered in Shepherd's Bush on January 11 by rival model George Koh, 24, who is being sentenced today along with two other men.

Mr Uzoka died on the pavement after being stabbed in the heart when Koh, Jonathan Okigbo and Merse Dikanda chased and cornered him armed with knives and a machete.

His mother Josephine Jackson, 61, told of her agony at the Old Bailey today after his killers were found guilty last month.

Paying tribute to Mr Uzoka as she passed sentence, Judge Wendy Joseph QC said: 'The loss of any life is tragic, the more so when a victim is so young, able and generous.

'Harry Uzoka was a young man of exceptional talent, who overcame his own difficulties to make a great success of his young life and to be a remarkable role model for others. He was 25 years old when you killed him.

'Behind that bald statement are these facts: Harry Uzoka had, with great talent, forged a successful international career as a male model. He was one of the first black British men to do so.

'He was generous with his time and enjoyed helping others like him to do the same. Amongst those was George Koh.

'The relationship broke down because of George Koh's behaviour, which swung between excessive admiration and spite.

'This manifested itself in several ways. Sometimes Mr Koh would claimed to look very like Harry and tried to imitate his style of dress. At other times he contacted Harry's Instagram friends, falsely speaking ill of them.'

In an impact statement read to the court Mr Uzoka's mother said: 'I have so much pain for the death of my Harry and I find it difficult these days to go on without him.

'His departure has left a gaping hole, a gap, a void in the family that we are all finding hard to contend with.

'He was due to start acting in a couple of upcoming movies but that chance has been take away from him.

'My son was a beautiful boy. I would give anything to change places with Harry, to take away the horror and pain that he suffered that day.

'Harry, your short life enriched the lives of many, you inspired so many people and touched them with your love.

'You will never be forgotten my wonderful boy.'

Killer Koh, who was described as 'obsessed', boasted on Instagram that he had slept with Mr Uzoka's girlfriend Ruby Campbell, before confronting him on January 11.

The trio were convicted in a jury trial after all three had denied the murder near Mr Uzoka's home.Koh, of Camden, north London, wore a light-coloured shirt and black suit in the dock as he faced sentence for murder, and two counts of possession of knives he admitted taking to the scene before the trial.

Sean Larkin, mitigating for Koh, said he had a 'troubled upbringing' and 'began to turn his life around in as much as he pursued his career in modelling.

'He was somebody that ruminated... but not a violent man, not somebody who was going out, getting into trouble on a regular basis starting fights or anything like that.

'George Koh, described as passionate, soft, a picture of someone timid, did this because he thought he was at risk in the future.

'It was a premeditated confrontation, but it was not a premeditated murder, and not even a premeditated serious injury.'

Kieran Vaughan, mitigating for Okigba, said: 'As far as Mr Okigba is concerned we suggest that he went to the scene in Ongar Close unaware that any of his co-defendants were in possession of a knife.

'It was never envisaged by him that Mr Uzoka would be killed or seriously injured.'

Described in court as Britain's 'most famous black model', Mr Uzoka starred in a GQ photoshoot shortly before his death which saw him stand in front of a Mercedes Benz feature for the magazine.

Mr Uzoka also starred in campaigns for Zara and Mercedes and regularly modelled for clothing line Everlane after he was signed up by world renowned agent Premiere Model Management, who helped launched the career of Naomi Campbell.

Koh, a former Louis Vuitton and Paul Smith model, previously posted a photo on Instagram of David Beckham standing in front of his photo at London Fashion Week.

More than two dozen people including Mr Uzoka's mother and cousin sat in the public gallery for the sentencing.

The hearing before Judge Wendy Joseph QC continues.
