The singer, 33, opened up about the “traumatic” experience of losing her baby George on the BBC Radio 4 show earlier today.

Speaking about losing her first child during childbirth in 2010, the star recalled the heartbreaking moment a doctor told her there was no longer “a pulse”.

She said: “I went into early labour and they put a stitch in my cervix to try and stop that from developing, and that lasted for the best part of a week.

“The stitch broke and I went into full-blown labour and the baby was really, really small.

“And as I was delivering him, the doctors said, ‘there was a pulse and now there no longer is.’

“The cord was wrapped around his neck and he was just too small.”

When asked how she had processed the loss, Lily replied: “I don’t think I did. The hardest thing about that was losing a child, but there were complications with the actual delivery.

“He was so small he actually got stuck halfway in and halfway out, so to speak, during the delivery, and because his skin wasn’t fully formed they couldn’t [use] forceps [to] pull him out.”

“So there was a period of about 12 hours of lying there with him deceased in between my legs, which was incredibly [traumatic].

“I went into trauma and I don’t think I’ll ever really recover from that.”

Those listening took to Twitter to praise Lily for sharing her experience so “honestly”.

One wrote: “@lilyallen just heard you on @BBCWomansHour thank you for being so open about the loss of your baby. You know it really helps to hear other women talking about their experiences. Sending big love to you.”

Another commented: “Wonderful, moving interview from @lilyallen on @BBCWomansHour but it was so, so sad in places it actually made me burst into tears.”

A third shared: “@lilyallen brilliant interview on Women’s Hour. So honest and strong.”

Lily went on to have two daughters, five-year-old Marnie and six-year-old Ethel, with ex-husband Sam Cooper.

It comes after The Sun’s Bizarre column revealed that she will admit in her new book My Thoughts Exactly to sleeping with female prostitutes and kissing Lenny Kravitz’s daughter Zoe while still married to Sam.

She opens up about cheating her former husband during her 2014 US tour in the same highly-anticipated autobiography that she writes about having sex on a plane with Liam Gallagher while he was still married to Nicole Appleton.
