New photo How moving just a few hundred metres down the road could save you $250 a week

Renters wanting to live a lavish lifestyle close to the city can save money by leasing out a property next door to a posh suburb.

By moving only several hundred metres down the road, it is possible to save hundreds of dollars, whether you are in Sydney or Melbourne, by living in the shadow of a more well-known and prestigious district.

Toorak, in Melbourne's inner south-east, is one of Australia's priciest and most upmarket suburbs and is home to the likes of media personality Eddie McGuire and former AFL coach James Hird.

There, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom house on Irving Road is being leased out for $1,500 a week.

For that kind of money, you get a north-facing hedge garden and a master bedroom with a private terrace on a secluded property billed as 'the ultimate Toorak location'.

Less than a kilometre away in Armadale, an even bigger executive house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms was being rented out for $1,250 a week, a saving of $250 over the Toorak offering.

The Victorian-era home on Munro Street has a large, alfresco dining area and is a short stroll from the fashion boutique shops and restaurants at Prahan.

Sydney residents wanting to live the high life near the city can also save hundreds of dollars every month by choosing to live in Darlinghurst, in the inner-eastern suburbs, instead of more upmarket Paddington, where former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has an investment terrace.

Both suburbs are on Oxford Street and offer glimpses of Sydney Harbour and the city skyline.

In Darlinghurst, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom luxury apartment is being leased out for $1,200 a week.

The split-level home on Burton Street with timber floor also has a 24-hour concierge service along with a sauna and a pool.

Despite being closer to the city centre, it was $85 a week cheaper than a similar two-bedroom, two bathroom offering in neighbouring Paddington on Glenmore Road, which was being rented out for $1,285 a week.

To achieve her kick-ass figure, Hayden – who plays cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes – follows the ‘quartering’ rule. She eats only a quarter of the food on her plate, then waits 20 minutes before deciding whether she needs to eat again.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”

Kim says: “I am no super-thin Hollywood actress. I am built for men who like women to look like women.”
