"Many Photos" - Obese woman sheds 256LBS after her weight soared to 691lbs

A morbidly obese woman who tipped the scales at 691lbs after years of binge eating with her mother has shed a total of 256lbs following gastric bypass surgery.

Lacey Hodder, 29, from Bay City, Michigan, documented her weight loss journey on Wednesday night's episode of the TLC series My 600lb Life, admitting that she was 'ashamed' that she let herself get to this point.

'Waking up is so painful, because there's so much weight pulling down on every part of me now that every inch of my body is constantly in pain, and it's so much worse when I move,' Lacey said.

'So getting up and having to start my day is something I dread, because the very first few steps out of the bed, that's the most painful.'

At 5-foot-3 and weighing nearly 700lbs, Lacey feared her legs 'could give out' at any moment, leaving her trapped without anyone to find her because she lived alone.

'I've let my weight get so bad that something simple like going to the bathroom or taking a shower could be a life-or-death experience for me,' she explained. 'I am ashamed I let it get to this point and I refuse to even look at my body anymore.'

Lacey said the 'only joy' she had left in life was food, admitting that eating was her only motivation to get up in the morning.

For breakfast, she ate sausage and hash browns before gorging on chocolate cupcakes. A little while later, she left the house to get fast-food.

'Food and my weight have always been a struggle for me. If there is a time when I wasn't overweight, I don't remember that,' she said. 'I was big when I was a toddler. It started from there and it just progressed.

'My mom loved food. She was actually a cook at a resort so food was her life. She had really bad eating habits,' she explained. 'I know that I learned my eating habits from her. Binge eating, that's something my mom has struggled with her entire life as well.'

Lacey said she developed her mother's binge-eating habits at an early age, recounting how she weighed more than 120lbs when she was just six years old.

Her mother, Martha, recalled Lacey's pediatrician asking her what she was feeding her daughter because her weight was 'already off the charts.'

Both of Lacey's parents worked long hours, and her weight continued to spiral out of control because she was left to make her own meals.

She recalled mixing butter and sugar in a bowl and eating it in her room, noting that there was no one around to tell her that she couldn't do that.

By the time she was nine, she weighed more than 200lbs and could no longer keep up with her friends. Her father, Steve, was struggling to find a job at the time and his explosive anger led her to turn to food for comfort.

Lacey weighed 350lbs when she was 12 years old, and her doctor stopped weighing her at that point because the office scale didn't go any higher than that.

Steve started to call out Lacey for her eating, and he recalled how upsetting it was for him to watch his daughter throw her life away for food.

By the time she was 15, she weighed 492lbs and was still gaining. She had to drop out of high school the following year because she could no longer keep up with her peers.

Lacey attended an alternative school and was able to get her degree at 18, but that still didn't stop her from eating. Her parents finally divorced, and she rarely saw her father, who admitted he was embarrassed because of her weight.

She tried to go to community college, but she couldn't get around. When she was 20 years old, her weight soared to more than 600lbs and she had to go on disability.

Lacey used the money to get a place of her own and lived there for nearly a decade. She explained that she had never once had a job or supported herself.

She eventually lost her eating partner when her mom got gastric bypass surgery, but that didn't curb her own addiction to food.

After hitting rock bottom, Lacey made the decision to travel to Houston, Texas, to meet with weight loss surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan.

Her biggest fear was confirmed when she stepped on the scale and learned she weighed close to 700lbs.

Dr. Nowzaradan said her BMI of 122 was one of the highest he had ever seen, and he was surprised that she was still able to get around on her own.

He noted that he was concerned that her mother was still overeating, and he didn't want her relationship with food to affect her daughter.

The doctor put Lacey on a 1,200 calorie high-protein, low-carb diet to begin following immediately.

Lacey was dedicated to her diet, and during her next visit, she learned she had lost 105lbs on her own.

Although she was approved for weight loss surgery, she was scared of giving up food as a coping mechanism and Dr. Nowzaradan postponed the procedure.

He asked Lacey to start seeing a therapist to help her deal with her issues with food until she was ready to move forward with her weight loss surgery.

Lacey fell in love with painting as a creative outlet, and she after her gastric bypass, she started taking painting classes and meeting new people.

At the end of the year, she weighed 435lbs, after having lost a total of 256lbs. Dr. Nowzaradan revealed her BMI was down to 77, and he gave her the goal of getting down to 150lbs.

The surgeon also discussed removing the extra skin on her body after she lost another 80lbs.

At the end of the episode, Lacey revealed she had stated hiking outside every day, noting that it had become something that she looked forward to.

'I'm starting to love my life now and how it has completely changed over the past year, and I am working to break all of the bad habits I had,' she said.

'It isn't easy, but I think I am doing pretty good with it.'
