"Many Photos" - EasyJet passengers can avoid £50 charge at the airport with new AR technology allowing them to check their luggage dimensions before travelling

EASYJET have launched new technology within their app to help passengers avoid getting stuck with a £50 charge at the airport.

The low-cost airline have introduced augmented reality to allow hand-luggage travellers to check the size of their suitcase before flying.

Within the free easyJet app is the option to use the Cabin Bag Sizer, found within the Bag Allowances section.

The first step is to find an open space and point the phone camera at the floor.

This will then bring up the sizing cage once the phone has been moved around to focus and calibrate measurements.

Using the cage, it can then be placed over the suitcase using the augmented technology to see if it fits the dimensions of easyJet’s hand luggage allowance.

The app technology is currently only compatible with the iPhone 6s and upwards.

EasyJet passengers are currently allowed to take one suitcase onto the flight measuring no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

There is no weight limit for the suitcase although any handbags and duty free bags must also fit in the suitcase.

Travellers who get to the airport with a bag bigger than this will be charged up to £50 to check it in.

A number of Flybe passengers were recently caught out at the airport after the airline clamped down on people flouting the luggage rules.

Anyone with a suitcase that exceeded the size dimensions were charged £50 at the airport, although many passengers complained they were not informed of the rules.

Some even found their suitcase was allowed on their outbound journey, but not on their return.
