New photo Who is Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and is the terror chief dead or alive?

ABU Bakr al-Baghdadi is the elusive leader of Isis and one of the world’s most wanted men.

After being presumed dead on more than one occasion, the depraved extremist re-emerged in an audio recording in September 2017.

Who is Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi?

The terror chief is believed to have been born in Samarra, north of Iraqi capital Baghdad, in 1971.

He was reportedly a cleric in a mosque when the city was invaded by US-led forces in 2003.

While reports differ on when al-Baghdadi was radicalised, it has been suggested that he was brainwashed in Camp Bucca, a US prison in southern Iraq.

He was previously the leader of extremist group al-Qaeda in Iraq which eventually transformed into ISIS in 2010.

Al-Baghdadi’s only known public appearance on video was in 2014 when he delivered a sermon in Mosul, Iraq.

The so-called “caliphate” had been declared by the sinister terror chief and his followers earlier that year.

Nicknamed the “invisible sheikh”, al-Baghdadi reportedly wears a mask while speaking to his sick band of thugs, reports the BBC.

Before September, 2017, the last known message from al-Baghdadi was in December, 2016.

Since the terror boss’ disappearance, ISIS have suffered heavy defeats in Iraq, Syria and Libya – including losing control of Mosul in July, 2017.

There have also been numerous unsubstantiated reports of the death cult leader’s demise over the years.

In November reports emerged out of Iraq that Baghdadi had fled the country in a yellow taxi while at the same time ordering remaining militants to fight to the death.

An intelligence source told the Iraqi Media News Agency how the terror chief picked out the unusual vehicle in a bid to avoid suspicion.

On August 14, it was reported that al-Baghdadi was “clinically dead” after an airstrike and that he has been replaced by a murderous fanatic called Abu Othman al-Tunisi.

Syrian soldiers are currently on a mission to track down the elusive ISIS terror chief.

The Sun Online was alongside the battle-hardened warriors as they targeted the warlord’s henchmen and family in their stronghold of Hajin, east Syria – near where al-Baghdadi is thought to be hiding out.

The operation comes just weeks after the so-called ‘Invisible Sheikh’ ordered the execution of 320 of his followers for disloyalty from his secret bolthole, which is said to be close to the Iraqi border.

In September, ISIS released a recording of what it claims is al-Baghdadi, calling on jihadists under pressure in Syria and Iraq to “resist” their enemies.

In his first alleged message in nearly a year and following reports of his possible death, the elusive jihadist leader called on his supporters to target the “media centres” of countries fighting his group.

The United States said it was verifying the recording, but also that it had “no reason to doubt” its authenticity.

“The leaders of the Islamic State and its soldiers have realised that the path to… victory is to be patient and resist the infidels whatever their alliances,” Baghdadi allegedly said in the recording.

It was not clear when the message, released by the ISIS-affiliated Al-Furqan media group, was recorded.

But his reference to tensions between North Korea and the US would suggest it was recorded recently.

He said: “North Korea is now threatening America and Japan with nuclear power” and “America, Europe and Russia are living in a state of terror… fearing the strikes of the mujahideen”.

Al-Baghdadi also lashed out at “infidel nations headed by America, Russia and Iran” who, along with their allies, have inflicted losses on the jihadists during separate offensives against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

“We will remain, we will resist and be patient… We will not give in,” he said, a day after Iraqi forces defeated ISIS fighters who had seized areas in a surprise offensive around Ramadi west of Baghdad.
