A TALENTED 16-year-old singer killed herself after she was bullied online by other children and their parents, her heartbroken family have said.
Trixie Hart, from Gunnislake in Cornwall, took her own life in September after suffering years of anxiety and depression.
Her gran April Gunn, 66, said she felt the bullying on social media – on top of Trixie’s battles with mental health – had become too much for the schoolgirl to cope with.
She told BBC Cornwall: “She didn’t quite ever fit in with her peer group…they felt she was too intense, because she was. She was passionate about anything that really mattered to her. It was a burden for a young person.
“School life wasn’t brilliant the older she got. She was on the tail end of bullying.
“She couldn’t really cope with that.
Trixie’s family eventually took her out of Callington Community College and home-schooled her to try and protect her from bullies.
April said her granddaughter suffered “vicious” abuse online.
She said: “Trixie was horribly misunderstood and subjected to bullying online. This was not just from children but also from their parents saying horrible things about her.
“On social media young people press buttons, get in little huddles to make bullying and spiteful remarks.
“They don’t see the impact because they can’t see that face…it’s as if it’s a game and not real but it eats away at a person when you’re on the receiving end of it.
“It was relentless. Teenagers are spiteful. It wasn’t just bullying, it contributed to an already anxious girl.”
She added: “When I was young, there was bullying but you could get away from it. You could shut yourself in your bedroom and keep away from them but with social media, you are anxiously thinking ‘what are they saying about me now?’
“She did delete her Facebook account, but then inevitably the pressure of not knowing became worse than the pressure of knowing what was being said about her.
“Trixie took everything to heart right from the start really, she always did.
“I think her intensity and her anxieties were very difficult for her peers to comprehend.”
April recalled one night when Trixie was staying with her she found her looking at the screen with tears streaming down her face.
She said: “Social media didn’t cause her problems but it certainly didn’t help her mental instability and depression which was part of her make-up.”

April said Trixie met with youth workers, social workers, a psychiatrist and had meetings to go but claimed the varying treatments and advice she was given felt “very disjointed”.
She said: “She felt suffocated…there was no consistency.”
A full inquest will be held at a later date to assess all the circumstances around her death.
