FAMILY doctors made more than 1.4million referrals for talking therapies for depressed or anxious patients last year, figures show.
More than a million started treatment — 4.5 per cent up on the year before.

Just over half of those referred who finished their course made a recovery, says NHS Digital. The statistics body said that there were 1.44million referrals in 2017/18 compared to 1.39million in 2016/17.
Almost nine in ten were seen within six weeks, better than the national target of three quarters for that time frame.
Patients who completed their course had an average of almost seven sessions with a therapist, revealed the NHS Digital report into access to psychological therapies.
Commenting on the findings, Claire Murdoch, NHS England’s national director of mental health, said yesterday: “The NHS has one of the world’s most ambitious programmes of talking therapies.

“Last year more than one million people were helped for the first time, with over half of those treated recovering by the end of their sessions.”
She added: “The NHS continues to champion mental health services. Its long-term plan will set out further priorities for the years ahead to raise standards of care and increase access for those who need support.”
RUTH Murrell, suicidal after being badly hurt with her daughter, 13, in the Manchester terror attack, had to pay £85 an hour for counselling after learning she faced up to a year’s wait for NHS help, a Survivors Against Terror report said.
