FACEBOOK is back up after thousands of users reported issues with the social network being down.
Users were reporting a “total blackout” of service, which appeared to begin at around 6pm UK time on Monday evening.
The site was back up and running just after 7pm.
Facebook released a statement saying: “Earlier today, a routine test caused users to have trouble accessing or posting to all Facebook services including WhatsApp and Instagram. We quickly investigated and restored access for everyone.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience.”
During the outage The Sun was able to get Facebook to load on Safari and Google Chrome browsers, although some features loaded slowly – or not at all.
But several thousand Facebook users have logged complaints about the service with outage tracker Down Detector.
Around 52% of users reported a “total blackout”, while 31% said log-in wasn’t working. A further 15% complained about the Facebook app, specifically.
Users on Twitter also complained about the mystery outage.
One concerned Facebooker wrote: “What shall I do with my life now? Facebook is down!!!”
Social media boff Matt Navarra posted: “#facebookdown for many users. Mostly an issue for people in the US and on desktop.”
A Down Detector live outage map seemed to confirm this, with most of the complaints being reported from the east coast of the USA – particularly around New York.
Images of the stock Facebook error page show a message that reads: “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”
