A FORMER FBI agent has claimed “dirty” LA cops deliberately derailed his investigation into the murder of rap giant Biggie Smalls.
Phil Carson retired from the Bureau last September, almost two decades after the Notorious B.I.G. was gunned down in LA in March 1997.
Now he has told how some of those “at the top” of the LAPD worked to protect the rogue cops Carson believes helped plot the high-profile and still unsolved murder.
He also told the Daily Beast those involved in the cover up include those in the department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.
“I can prove to you how they not only knew what was going on, but how they obstructed this case, how they derailed it,” said Carson.
“I was young enough and naive enough not to realise how big and powerful these people were.”
Carson’s suspicions were further raised when he claimed he discovered a reluctance within the LAPD to investigate Biggie’s murder – despite him putting together a solid case.
He revealed he discovered years had passed since anyone inside the Robbery-Homicide division had done any work on Biggie’s killing.
Carson said when he was eventually able to review the case files “he realised that no further investigation had taken place – it was a cold case for them.”
The ‘Fed’ first started probing the murder after he watched a VH1 documentary about the Chrstopher ‘Biggie’ Smalls killing.
It didn’t obviously relate to any of the police corruption cases Carson was working on at the time, but some of the clues rang big alarm bells.
“Honestly, I did not really know anything about Biggie Smalls,” said Carson.
“But while I’m watching, I’m thinking to myself, ‘Hold on a second here. This is all interconnected.’”
He said he realised the tactics used in the Biggie killing – a highly choreographed hit using police radios and manoeuvres suggested an intimate familiarity with law enforcement.

The operation also reminded him of historic jobs pulled off by a team of dirty cops who had been exposed years earlier.
The news certainly comes as no surprise to ‘Battle for Compton’ director RJ Bond who told the Sun Online: “We knew for some time that Phil Carson was ready to make a case. In fact we talk about it in the movie.
