New photo Best Christmas supermarket buys according to Olive magazine

Olive Magazine has unveiled the results of its annual supermarket awards, revealing the very best ready-made festive products to buy this Christmas.

The awards recognise every element of the perfect festive feast, from the best Christmas pudding and most decadent cheeseboard, to bargain prosecco and own-brand gin - to make hosting as hassle-free as possible this year.

Waitrose swept the board with five wins out of 16 categories, including Best Frozen Dessert for its raspberry and passion fruit meringue, Best Smoked Salmon and Best Ready-Made Cheeseboard, which the judges said was 'a must on every buffet table this Christmas'.

Sainsbury's won in four categories, including Best Meat-free Main for its Taste the Difference truffled cauliflower cheese en croute, and Best Christmas Cake, dubbed as 'the Christmas cake everyone will want to buy' and praised for its decoration, moistness and 'the perfect proportion of booze'.

Aldi took another win in the category for Best Pigs in Blankets for its quirky three-for-the-price-of-one, triple sausage bundle at just £2.99, with Tesco picking up a second win in the Best Christmas Pudding category, which the judges marked as an all-round winner.

Speaking about the results, Laura Rowe, olive Editor, said: 'All of our research suggests even the biggest foodies like a little helping hand at this special time of year, and the annual olive Christmas Supermarket Awards ensure that our readers' hard-earned pounds are put to good use.

Only the best products make the cut and the olive stamp of approval is a guarantee that your supermarket shortcut, be it pigs in blankets or panettone, will impress over the holidays.'

All the tested products were nominated by the supermarkets, with one entry per category, before being blind tasted and rated by the panel of experts.

The awards champion festive cheats and time-saving products that will make Christmas entertaining easy while maintaining excellent quality.
