The fight takes place this Friday night – September 28.


It will be hosted at the King Abdullah Sports City Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.


The ring walks be at 9pm on the dot, as confirmed by promoter Kalle Sauerland.

Groves: “He doesn’t win fights as easily or as convincingly as he should do. He ­labours to a points victory or a late stoppage. His biggest win is over Rocky ­Fielding, which he did win early.”


Smith: “Every fight has been aiming towards this one. I do feel every fight I’ve had so far I’ve never really been fully satisfied. I’ve never really enjoyed any of my wins. No disrespect but it’s always been about the next title to get to being a world champion. I’ve finally got that chance now. I’m fighting for the chance to become the No  1 fighter in the division and the best in the world.”

There is just one other fight on the bill, with Chris Eubank Jr taking on JJ McDonagh.


He narrowly missed out on the WBSS final, losing to Groves in the semis.


The Brit’s opponent was a late addition and will be a formidable foe after producing of the knockouts of 2016 when he beat Jake Ball for the WBA International Light-Heavyweight title.

What are the fighters’ records?


George Groves has lost three times in his 31-fight career, including twice to Carl Froch.


The 30-year-old’s most recent defeat was to Badou Jack in September 2015 for the WBC super-middleweight title – but has since enjoyed a seven-fight winning streak, beating four Brits in that time.


Groves has knocked out 20 of his opponents, going the distance on eight occasions.


Callum Smith is undefeated in 24 fights, with 17 knockouts.


Smith will be looking to make Groves his ninth British victim, having previously held the WBC Silver Super-middleweight belt.
