New photo Southern Charm star Thomas Ravenel is arrested for assault and battery

Thomas Ravenel, one of the star's of Bravo's Southern Charm, has been arrested on assault and battery charges.

The reality TV figure was taken into custody in Charleston on Tuesday at 10.11am. 

He was booked for second degree assault and battery but no other details were immediately available. 

DailyMail.com understands that his arrest relates to the May claims of former nanny Dawn Ledwell who says he forcible raped her in his bedroom while his young daughter slept nearby.  

Ledwell reported him in May and went on the record to publicly accuse him in an exclusive interview with DailyMailTV.

Ravenel denied her allegation through an attorney at the time.

In an interview with DailyMail.com, Dawn described how he cornered her in his master bedroom after she had gone to get her coat. 

Ravenel had come home from a dinner with friends and 'forced' himself on her in the kitchen, asking for a hug, she said. 

He was previously accused of sexually assaulting a woman he met on Tinder in 2015.  

The City of Charleston Police did not respond to DailyMail.com's inquiries on Tuesday morning. 

Ravenel denied both accusations through a lawyer at the time. 

He recently broke up with Ashley Jacobs, his girlfriend of 15-months. 

Ravenel quit Southern Charm in August this year after the sexual misconduct allegations. 

At the time, he said it was because the show's producers had 'taken advantage' of him and their 'right to fictionalize' his story. 

Ravenel has two young children with his Southern Charm co-star Kathryn Dennis (shown above together on the show). He quit in August 

He previously starred alongside his 27-year-old former girlfriend Kathryn Dennis. The pair have two children together. 

Before his reality TV career, Ravenel served as as the State Treasurer for South Carolina but was forced out of the role in 2007 after just five months after being arrested for cocaine possession with intent to distribute. 

He was sentenced to 10 months in a federal prison. 

He ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate in 2004. Ravenel is the son of former congressman Arthur Ravenel Jr.
