New photo Probe over claims two Corbyn aides have working in Parliament without passes

Jeremy Corbyn is facing a probe today over claims two of his senior aides have been working in Parliament without security clearance.

The Labour leader's Private Secretary Iram Awan has allegedly not been granted a pass for nine months because of concerns over her associates.

Andrew Murray, a former Communist Party member who advises Mr Corbyn part-time, is also said to have been awaiting clearance for a year.

The news has raised concerns as anyone who regularly works on the Westminster estate is expected to pass a counter-terrorism check.

Mr Corbyn's spokesman repeatedly declined to answer questions on the claims - insisting: 'We do not comment on staffing matters'. Sources insisted they had not been told any pass applications had been turned down, or given any reason for delays.

But the Parliamentary authorities signalled they would investigate any accusations that the rules were being flouted.

According to the Huffington Post, Awan has routinely been escorted through security at Parliament in by members of Corbyn's team.

As a visitor she will have needed to go through security checks and X-rays on the way in, and a passholder is meant to accompany her at all times.

Hours after the allegations emerged, fresh concerns were raised about the status of Mr Murray.

Mr Murray is chief of staff to Unite chief Len McCluskey, a close ally of Mr Corbyn, but works as a consultant to the Labour leader for a day and a half a week.

Mr Murray was a Communist Party member until he joined Labour in 2016 after Mr Corbyn took charge.

He previously voiced 'solidarity' with North Korea and suggested Stalin had been harshly treated by history.

Mr Murray has been waiting for a pass to be authorised for a year, according to the Financial Times.

A Parliamentary spokesman said: 'Visitor passes are for visitors only; they cannot be used to carry out work on the parliamentary estate.

'While we are unable to comment on specific cases, any alleged breach of the rules on passes will be investigated by the House authorities.

'Anyone carrying out work on the estate must have been through the vetting process and hold a Parliamentary pass. Anyone working on the estate on a visitor pass would be in breach of this rule.'

A spokesman for Mr Corbyn said: 'We don't comment on staffing matters'.

But a Labour source added: 'We have not been told that any member of staff has been refused a pass or any reasons for why any pass may not have yet been granted.'

The Government policy on security says passes may be refused if 'there are security concerns related to an individual's involvement or connection with activities, organisations or individuals associated with the threats'.

Other reasons for refusal include: 'Personal circumstances, current or past conduct indicate that an individual may be susceptible to pressure or improper influence' and 'other behaviours or circumstances [that] indicate unreliability.'

Awan was an activist with the Left Unity pressure group before she was called up to work for Corbyn late last year.
