HOLLYOAKS viewers were left in turmoil tonight after Luke Morgan was sent to jail for assaulting Scott Drinkwell.
Fans watched as he was led away in handcuffs and put in the back of a police van to serve two years in jail for his crime.
The show started with Luke (Gary Lucy) preparing to take his son Ollie (Aedan Duckworth) and the run to avoid prison.
He said his goodbyes to step-daughter Ella and wife Mandy (Sarah Dunn), who has put their recent differences aside to support him, and believed he is going to the trial.
In her attempts to support her husband, Mandy made a visit to Scott (Ross Adams), to beg him to reconsider defending Luke’s behaviour in court, and after much persuasion he agreed.
Little did she know, Luke and Ollie were heading to the airport to avoid any jail time.
But on the way to catch a plane, Luke went back the place where he was brutally raped nearly two decades ago, and decided he needed to face his demons.
After revealing what happened to him, he told his son Ollie he didn’t want to run anymore, and wanted to face up to what he had done.
He took his son and headed back to the trial, where he apologised to Mandy for all he’s put her through.
Sentenced to two years in prison, Luke was led away in handcuffs, but not before he reassured Ollie that everything was going to be okay in emotional goodbye screens.
Fans immediately took to Twitter, with one saying: “omg ollie and luke on hollyoaks, i’m sat here tearing up. brilliant acting as always from those two. #Hollyoaks”
Another commented: “I hope Luke comes back and beats his demons he deserves to be happy my heart just broke”
While this one said: “2 years in prison you’ve got to be kidding me I can’t wait that long”
Earlier in the episode Viewers also got emotional when they saw Luke revisit the scene of his brutal rape 18 years ago.
