RUSSIA gave the world a peek of the fearsome Uragan multi-rocket launcher at its biggest war games in decades today.
Terrifying footage showed the 20-tonne war machine firing 280kg missiles at an impressive rate of two-per-second.
It was just one of the weapons on display at the Vostok-2018 drills featuring 300,000 troops, 1,000 aircraft and two naval fleets.
The Uragan, first developed and deployed by the Soviet Army in the 1970s, can obliterate a target 20 miles away.
Its 260hp diesel engine can push its massive ZIL-135 chassis to a maximum speed of 40mph, Army Tech reports.
The launcher, which spins through 240 degrees, can fire shattering, chemical explosive and mine-scattering rockets.
Each 220mm missile can scatter 312 anti-personnel mines which can encircle the enemy or prevent their escape.
The Uragan is known for its reliability, simplicity and low-maintenance, according to experts at Army Tech.
It was used during the drills being held in Siberia and the waters off Russia’s eastern coast until September 17.
They are taking place at a time of heightened tension between the West and Russia.
NATO has said it will monitor the exercise closely, as will the US which has a strong military presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
President Vladimir Putin inspected the massive war games on Thursday.
In a speech, he told soldiers he would strengthen the Russian army with new-generation weapons and equipment.
He claimed Russia was a peaceful country ready for cooperation with any state interested in partnership.

The Ministry of Defence aired footage of the Northern Fleet’s Vice-Admiral Kulakov destroyer and Alexander Obrakovsky landing ship taking part in a mock-up rescue on Friday.
Other videos showed scores of paratroopers leaping from a plane and descending from helicopters by ropes in the eastern Siberian territory of Zabaikalsk.
The ministry also broadcast clips of missiles being launched from its S-300 long-range surface-to-air missile system and its Buk medium-range missile system.
