GENNADY GOLOVKIN promised a ‘special war’ when he clashes with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez after the pair successfully made weight in Las Vegas.
The middleweight pair were both comfortably inside the 11st 6lb middleweight limit at Friday’s weigh in at the T-Mobile Arena.
Around 1,000 fans crammed into the venue to watch both fighters finally hit the scales after months of verbal sparring.
But they almost came to blows on the stage when they posed for their first head-to-head photograph of fight week.
Canelo’s team seemed to take exception to Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez coming between the pair.
But security were on hand to ensure there was no early violence between the feuding camps.
And WBA and WBC middleweight king Golovkin, who weighed in at 159.6lbs says it will be worth the wait when the duo finally collide.
He said: “This is like a big gift for boxing fans.

“This is going to be a special war. I always promise a big drama show and this one is no different.
“I’m not nervous. I am very experienced, I have great experience from the first fight.
“I’m not nervous, I’m a professional athlete.
“Maybe 20 years ago I had nerves but not now. Right now, I’m very excited.”
Canelo, who has only just returned from a six-month drugs ban, was marginally lighter than his rival – tipping the scales at 159.4lbs.
He said: “I’m ready to put on a show for all the Mexican people.
“I expect the best Golovkin, I expect him to be in the best shape so there will be no excuses.”
