New photo Bank worker credits botched haircut for saving his life after it uncovered a cancerous mole

RELIEVED Cameron Quigley reckons a bad hair cut saved his life after it revealed a cancerous mole.

Cameron, 21, was miffed when a new barber shaved the side of his hair shorter and higher than normal.

The mole revealed by Cameron’s haircut turned out to be cancerous and was quickly removed

But it revealed a discoloured mole which was diagnosed as cancerous after it was removed by his GP.

He was admitted into hospital for an op to remove the surrounding skin in an attempt to prevent the melanoma cancer from spreading.

Bank worker Cameron, of Sunderland, said: “A bad haircut saved my life.

“Who knows how long it would have been before anyone spotted it if I had carried on having my hair cut as normal? “It wasn’t causing me any pain and it could have been weeks, months or years before we saw it.

“By then it could have been too late. The doctor took it off with a local anesthetic and sent it away.

“Two weeks later I was contacted by the GP to say it was an aggressive form of melanoma.

“It was a shock and stressful.”

He had the surrounding skin removed during an hour-long surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle.

Fair-skinned Cameron used to use sunbeds a lot and didn’t put sun cream on when going outside in the summer.

He said: “I used to use sunbeds two or three times a week.

“I know now it was far too much and I won’t be using them again.

“When the weather was nice I wouldn’t use anything to protect my skin.

“That’s what I am now telling other people – make sure you take care and don’t follow my example.”
