But then there’s lots of young grafters out there who want to drive but still can’t afford it because of exorbitant insurance costs.

I know a lad paying two grand to insure a £900 Corsa. Well, this might just be the answer.

We asked insurance firm Marmalade to come up with ten new cars for drivers aged 17-24, all available with a year’s free comprehensive telematics cover, with no curfews – and requiring only a small deposit.

Note. Drivers must fit a black-box device on to the battery of the car, which records and reviews every journey. It’s very easy to do. Once the first year’s free insurance ends, the driver is sent a renewal quote to continue with Marmalade or they can buy cover elsewhere. The monthly car payments continue as normal.

A spokesman said: “We’re championing young drivers and giving them a fairer deal.”
