"Many Photos" - Queen’s chief fire-tender ‘romps with married chambermaid'

The Queen's chief fireplace tender has been seeing a married chambermaid in steamy liaisons at Windsor Castle, it has been claimed.

Gary Jones, 54, who has been Fendersmith in the Royal Household for more than 30 years, is said to have romped with 44-year-old Joanne Ancell in the State Dining Room.

Ms Ancell reportedly left her husband last year after the romance with Mr Jones began 13 months ago.

The relationship is said to be common knowledge and 'everyone at the Castle knows about this', The Sun reported.

Gary Jones - who is reported to 'sit and watch TV with the Queen' and water her plants - has held the post since 1984

The couple are also said to have spent time together in the Castle's Jubilee Room and Footman's Room.

A Windsor Castle insider told the newspaper: 'Gary's not just the Queen's Fendersmith, he waters her garden and tends to her plants. He even sits and watches TV with the Queen.

'Jo worked on Harry's and Eugenie's weddings and has met and spoken to all of the Royal Family, handing out champagne and canapés.

'She gets a present every Christmas from the Queen and letters from Buckingham Palace. They look after her.'

Mr Jones has held the post since 1984, according to an online profile.

He describes the job as being to 'repair and clean the fenders and fireplaces in Windsor Castle'.

According to the page he was previously a groundsman at St George's Chapel, where Prince Harry married Meghan Markle last year.

He also has a grace-and-favour residence on the Frogmore Estate where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to move in.

They will take up residence in Frogmore Cottage, a Grade II-listed two-storey house on the north of the estate.

The estate is the site of Frogmore House, a beautiful 17th century manor which has been a royal residence since 1792.

The name comes from the high number of frogs which live in the low-lying marshy area, which is set within a long sweeping curve of the River Thames.

Frogmore House was repaired, restored and redecorated in the 1980s, revealing lost early 18th-century wall paintings by Louis Laguerre illustrating scenes from Virgil’s Aeneid.
