New photo Trump to hold five rallies in eight days as he fires up the base over Kavanaugh confirmation

President Trump had planned to spend the week touring the country highlighting what had originally appeared to be a slam-dunk, lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

Fresh off a vote that was expected to put Brett Kavanaugh on the nation's most prestigious bench, the president's campaign arm put five rallies in eight days on Trump's schedule to promote Republican candidates competing in the mid-terms.

On Oct. 1 - the first day of the new Supreme Court session and the day that the White House intended for the nation's newest justice to take the bench - Kavanaugh's nomination hung in the balance.

Trump instead pounced on the 'horrible, horrible, radical group of Democrats' who want to keep his nominee off the court and 'obstruct' his agenda as he went to war on behalf of the GOP for control of Congress at a Saturday evening rally.

The president enjoyed a welcome respite from the sex assault controversy involving his Supreme Court nominee when made a Sunday evening deadline to negotiate a trade deal with Canada that the White House quickly scheduled Rose Garden remarks around for Monday morning.

A campaign event in Tennessee, where Trump could let loose later in the day, was sure to be overshadowed by his battle to get Kavanaugh, who has been dogged with allegations that he was a serial sexual assaulter in his younger years, on the Supreme Court, though.

The president unloaded on the minority party at a Saturday evening rally in West Virginia, where he said Democrats are 'determined to take back power by any means necessary' over their efforts to slow-roll his nominee.

'You see the meanness, the nastiness. They don’t care who they hurt, who they have to run over to get power,' he claimed. 'We’re not going to give it to them.'

Kavanaugh's nomination has become an unlikely rallying cry for the right to maintain the majority, as other issues the president would prefer to campaign have taken a back seat to the drama.

'It has unified the Republican Party,' said Corey Lewandowski, the president's first campaign manager who's working this an organization affiliated with the vice president. 'That will motivate people after they see the likes of what Dianne Feinstein has done and Democrats to his family and his reputation.'

Senators were awaiting the results of an FBI probe into a string of sexual assault allegations against the D.C. Circuit judge led by Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford before voting to confirm or dismiss Kavanaugh this week.

The investigation that Trump ordered after a key Republican senator forced his hand with a suggestion that he'd vote no the nomination without it intended to be limited in scope and conclude on Friday.

'Of course we had hoped that the process would be faster and less politicized, but the truth is Dr. Ford was very compelling in her testimony, and the president felt the need for the FBI to have a through background check,'  Lewandowski said.

He added: 'I think that what you will find is that Judge Kavanaugh is going to become Justice Kavanaugh.'

In West Virginia, Trump let loose on the left over their handling of Ford's allegation, which Feinstein and others kept secret for six weeks as Kavanaugh's accuser considered her options.

'The entire nation has witnessed the shameless conduct of the Democrat Party,' Trump harped.

His rally on Monday evening was likely to be a repeat performance. He also had rallies on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday planned for this week in Mississippi, Minnesota and Kansas.

Before the month is over Trump was is due to return to Ohio and Florida and stump for Ted Cruz in Texas, as well, trumpeting the success of the economy, his various trade deals, including the new NAFTA and a renegotiated deal with South Korea.

'I think right now the Republicans have a very good chance of expanding the majority in the Senate,' Lewandowski insisted, pointing to competitive races in North Dakota and New Jersey.

In the House, he said, 'Not only are they not winning...the notion Democrats are going to be extraordinarly successful on Election Day is becoming a fallacy.'
