WEATHER experts have upgraded Tropical Storm Leslie to a full-blown hurricane and have confirmed that it is heading towards the UK next week.
With wind speeds of 75mph and even stronger gusts, the storm is now looking much more severe than previously predicted.
Extremely powerful hurricane-force winds are expected to extend outwards 45 miles from the centre of the vast storm, with slightly weaker tropical-storm-force winds covering a whopping 230 mile area.
Storm Leslie is currently in the middle of the Atlantic but it will be heading north tonight towards America.
Previous reports of the strengthening storm said that Britain could expect fierce gales and torrential rain as the storm moved eastwards towards Europe, but its path was not definitively established.
Now the Met Office has confirmed that the storm is heading our way.
Helen Chivers from the Met Office told Birmingham Live: “It could be that the remnants are caught up in the jet stream and moves in our direction.”
Effects won’t be felt in the UK until next week after Leslie has moved up towards the America.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami has warned that large swells and rip tides could be “life-threatening” as the brutal storm closes in on the southeastern coast of the United States along with Bermuda and the Bahamas in the next few days.

Then morning fog should clear in the south tomorrow leading to a mostly cloudy and warm day, but the north will be in for a wet and windy Thursday.
The weekend will also bring more blustery showers to England and Wales, with a relatively dry spell on Sunday morning.
