LIAM Gallagher has been quizzed under caution by cops on suspicion of an assault on his girlfriend.
Detectives launched a probe after The Sun published CCTV images showing the 46-year-old Oasis rocker seemingly grabbing Debbie Gwyther round the throat at a London celebrity hangout.
Liam, who denies assault, attended a police station by appointment and was not arrested.
He was read his constitutional rights and interviewed on tape about the alleged assault on Debbie Gwyther in the early hours of August 9.
Liam will be formally notified about whether any further action is to be taken at the conclusion of police enquiries.
Footage appeared to show Liam pushing Debbie, 36, down a corridor then grabbing her round the throat, causing her head to rock back.
Liam denies assaulting his ex-PA, who says they were “messing around” and has not made a complaint to police. But officers say the camera images are “consistent with assault”.
They are now seeking further corroborative evidence to build a potential case.
Even without a victim’s co-operation, domestic violence guide- lines oblige cops to try to secure potential evidence from images, medical reports and witness accounts of suspected bullying and abuse.
CID officers from the Met Police are analysing the footage and are also speaking to staff at the nightclub as potential witnesses.
The Met said in a statement: “Officers are aware of footage of an incident consistent with assault believed to have taken place in August 2018.
“The footage has been assessed and enquiries will be made into the circumstances. On Wednesday, 25 September a man attended a central London police station where he was interviewed under caution.
“No specific allegations have been received at this time. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
After the alleged incident, Liam was ordered to leave the club and was said to have shouted: “She’s a witch. It was her fault.”
Met commissioner Cressida Dick has made tackling domestic abuse a high priority.
