A California news anchor has resigned after going on a 400-word Facebook rant defending Brett Kavanaugh against sexual misconduct allegations.
Kris Long stepped down from CBS affiliate KESQ-TV in Palm Springs Friday after he suspended from the air after his September 17 post appeared.
'You are beyond dreaming if you think 17 year old boys are not going to misbehave from time to time as they begin to attempt relationships with the opposite sex,' Long wrote in the now-deleted post. 'That is just the way animals are made!'
The day before the judge was confirmed to the Supreme Court, the station accepted Long's resignation 'effective immediately' after his comments sparked a heated debate of journalist ethics.

He wrote a 400-word post defending Brett Kavnaugh against sexual misconduct allegations on September 17
After his initial post received more than 100 comments, Long deleted it the next and replaced it with an apology, writing: 'The previous post to this page has been deleted. This is a sensitive and controversial subject and I apologize for any offense that this has caused.'
Long was suspended from air after the post started a heated debate
On Friday he released a written statement: 'I want to thank those who have offered support and apologize again for any I may have offended. I hope to return to the news business in the future.'
'I wish I hadn't a written (the post) because it's caused me a lot of headache, he said. 'This is a sensitive and controversial subject and I apologize for any offense that this has caused.'
In another statement Friday, Gulf California Broadcast Company General Manager Jerry Upham said the station had accepted his resignation, adding, 'Kris Long has been an integral part of this company's news organization and we'd like to thank him for his many years of service.'
Long's initial post said he supports the MeToo movement. 'In fact, I would offer that it is long overdue,' he wrote.
But he followed that by defending a 17-year-old Kavanaugh's alleged actions.
Dr Christine Blasey Ford testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee that she feared for her life when a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a high school party when she was 15.
He wrote: 'To allow someone to accuse a fellow teenager of some lesser miscreant behavior from some four decades ago is, I feel, a real stretch.'
Long's initial post shows him supporting the #MeToo movement but defending Kavanaugh
Long does defend that by writing: 'Now, that certainly does not in any way mean that a 17 year old should be allowed to force himself on a young girl. That illegal act is reprehensible.'
But he continues to say that the timing of Ford's claim 'stinks of political maneuvering.'
If he were nominated for the Supreme Court, Long said, 'they might have to enlarge the Senate hearing room to accommodate all the young women from the mid to late 1960's who felt that I had tried to go a bit too far!'
After the post gained attention, some readers contacted his news station calling for him to retire.
However, there has been an outpouring of support for the long-time news veteran who are calling for him to return to the air.
'Perhaps I may have broken our social media standards by putting my article a little bit too far to one side,' Long said the day after his posting when he stood by his comments.
According to the Society for Professional Journalists, it suggests journalist to avoid activities that 'may compromise integrity or impartiality, or may damage credibility.'
He deleted the initial post and offered an apology the next day
