New photo Argos ‘ripping off customers’ after mum proves retailer charges DOUBLE for toys compared to other shops

A MUM-OF-FOUR has accused Argos of “daylight robbery” after proving the retailer is charging more than double the price of other shops for the same toys.

Zoe Baskerville, 44, of Worksop, Notts, posted on Facebook that you can buy many of the toys on offer in Argos’s “3 for 2” sale at rival toy shops such as Smyths for much cheaper.

Argos is selling a Zoomer Show Pony for £84.99 – but rival Smyths is selling the same toy for £27.99, and you can also buy it on Groupon for £34.98.

Meanwhile Argos’s price for a Thomas & Friends TrackMaster Sky-High Bridge Jump Playset is £108.99 but Smyths is selling it for £49.99, and BargainMax for £57.99.

Zoe pointed out that even with Argos’s “3 for 2” deal, parents would save more money by shopping around.

On her viral Facebook post, which has been shared 93,000 times, she wrote that she would be “giving Argos a swerve this year”.

In another example of why you should always shop around, Argos is selling a Thomas & Friends Super Station toy for £139.99 but you can get the same one at John Lewis or Smyths for £97.99.

The retailer is also selling Stretch Screamers for £25 each when Smyths is selling the same toys for £9.99.

An Argos spokeswoman said: “Our ‘3 for 2’ promotion offers great deals across thousands of our bestselling toys. We always aim to give customers the best possible value.”

Bargain hunters were stunned to find out how much cheaper you can buy the toys elsewhere.

Megan Blackmore wrote on Zoe’s Facebook page: “WHAT!! That’s crazy! Surely they can’t do that, will be avoiding Argos this year for sure!”

Debbie Anne Slater added: “I can’t believe the price difference, what a rip off, just shows you that you need to shop about.”

Last year, Argos was accused of pushing up its prices ahead of its “3 for 2” sale, as we reported in The Sun.

Cora Harrison, who writes the The Mini Millionaire blog, found that many products jumped in price on the day the sale started.

Argos launched its “3 for 2” sale on Wednesday, September 26, with thousands of toys included in the offer.

Shoppers can mix and match toys and get the cheapest one free.

Meanwhile Smyths is currently offering shoppers £10 for every £50 they spend.
