"Many Photos" - Shepherd trudges through the snow searching for newborn lambs

An Instagram-famous shepherdess has shown the toll a freak snow snap has taken on her farm animals and her work load during a hectic lambing season.

Red-haired Hannah Jackson is well-known in the agriculture world as an ambassador of National Sheep Association’s 'Next Generation' and for being a social media personality of sorts.

A series of clips posted to Twitter shows Ms Jackson, who goes by the moniker The Red Shepherdess, traipsing through thick snow in search of her day-old lamb at her Brookside Farm in Croglin, Carlisle - and then finding an extra two which were unexpected.

The 26-year-old's first tweet, to her 22 thousand followers, read: 'A small glimpse into my slightly chaotic morning. Battling the unexpected 7 inches of snow fall with sheep lambing.'

'It's like being in a winter wonderland...in April!' she said in the clip, adding: 'It's getting a bit silly now that they're being born in this weather.'

The weather weakened today and looks set to be the end of the snow in Cumbria for now, and Ms Jackson will be thankful having survived lambing season unscathed.

The farmer also revealed she had to give some lambs made-to-measure jackets to protect them from the cold and said that the lamb that she was searching for may well have died if it wasn't for the tiny jacket.

She originally moved from Bebington in The Wirral to flip her life upside down and throw herself into farming, citing a passion for animals to her bemused family.

She has featured on the cover of farming magazines and said jibes about her accent have hurt her in the past.

She said that she has heard things like: 'It takes more than a few photos to turn a Scouser into a shepherd' but loves the industry so much that she trudges on.

Ms Jackson also revealed she got made-to-measure jackets to save her young lambs from cold

In her recent series of tweets we see, as her shed filled up with animals who needed to be taken in for extra warmth, lambs with environmentally friendly water-proof coats on them so their wool didn't get wet and cause them harm.

This is one of many measures the 26-year-old had to take to ensure her animal's safety. Ms Jackson was praised for her work protecting the animals from the snow, while another farmer told Sky News that rain is also a 'worrying' factor.

Andrea Meanwell said: 'We had some lambs born yesterday, and we have brought them inside because they got wet.

'We put them in a warming box and then under a heat lamp to dry. We also gave them extra milk.'

Ms Jackson said she knew she wanted to be a farmer when she saw a lamb born while on holiday in Coniston Water, Cumbria with family.

She told Lakes World Heritage site: 'I’m pretty sure I was born with this connection to animals and wildlife. When I saw that lamb born, there was a big bang, a flash of lightning, or whatever you want to call it. The rest, as they say, is history.'
