WAYNE Rooney has told friends he would be “devastated” if Coleen leaves — but also “relieved” as they are both so unhappy.
Furious Coleen, 32, has ditched her wedding ring again after the ex-England captain partied with a barmaid.
She also urged him to seek help for his drinking, with the DC United star reportedly boozing at home alone for hours while playing computer games.
A source close to Rooney, 33, said he does not want a divorce from the mother of his four sons – but it could be for the best due to how unhappy they are.
The source said: “Wayne isn’t bothered about the bad publicity his behaviour has sparked.
“But he is worried about how easily Coleen is swayed by people around her.
“He knows Coleen doesn’t really want to leave him but is concerned that she might because there are far too many people in her ear.
“If she were to walk out on him he would be devastated but their relationship is facing so many problems he would be relieved at the same time.
“The atmosphere between them in the house is awful and has been for a while now.
“Wayne doesn’t like being in the house because of it so goes out whenever he gets the chance. But this just makes Coleen even more unhappy so it’s a vicious circle.”
Coleen was without her £200,000 wedding ring in Washington, where she and their boys relocated after Rooney’s transfer from Everton.
Pals say she has become increasingly isolated and lonely in the city, with her mum Colette, 55, flying out to support her this week.
Meanwhile, her husband was seen with his wedding ring as he bought a couple of coffees in the city.

The Sun on Sunday revealed last weekend that he downed shots with barmaid Vicki Rosiek, 32, and got into her car during a 10-hour bender in Florida.
He was also arrested at a Washington airport for “public intoxication” in December after getting off a flight.
Coleen removed her wedding ring 18 months ago when he was caught drink-driving in another woman’s car.
