"Many Photos" - Terrified youths cling to the side of a building after rising tide takes them by surprise

Stranded youths were forced to cling to the side of a building and be lashed with waves after the tide came in near Tower Bridge and they got stuck.

The shocking clip shows the men desperately holding onto rope as they try to reach stairs along the South Bank on the River Thames, London, at 1.45pm today.

Waves from the choppy water can be seen soaking them as they try to reach safe land as quickly as possible.

They take small steps along the bank as the choppy waves crash against them and soak their clothes

During the clip, the men desperately try to grab hold of the brick wall as the waves crash against the shore.

As the waters rise, the youths slowly try and make their way towards the steps to their right.

Witness Daniel Sweeney, 25, from Ireland, claims the men had been walking along the shore when the tide had come in.

He said: 'I was walking back from a meeting and I heard screaming. I looked down and three men who were walking on the shore had become trapped when the time came in quickly and it was lashing it down with rain.

'They almost got swept away by tides and had to hold on to the rope to reach the stairs.

'A crowd had gathered and were shouting down to them.

'The men were on their phones and they were screaming and waving for help.  

'They managed to get to the stairs. They were safe except for being soaking wet and cold!'
