"Many Photos" - Ex-Leeds and Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom in talks to take over at Hibs

PAUL Heckingbottom is in talks with Hibs about becoming their new boss in the next 48 hours.

The former Barnsley and Leeds United manager met the Edinburgh club in Manchester in Monday and is due to head to Scotland to close the deal.

Hibs want a coach to bring through players and make the club competitive and cheaper to run. Heckingbottom showed those skills at Barnsley.

The Easter Road outfit met other similar candidates, including Paul Hurst, but Heckingbottom has emerged as the leading candidate.

Hibs are keen to have Neil Lennon’s successor in place for the weekend and Heckingbottom is already making his own checks on possible staff.

Heckingbottom has not worked in Scotland and will try to find someone with local knowledge to be his assistant.

The Englishman has been out of work since leaving Leeds in June

Hibernian currently sit seventh in the Scottish Prem and face a tough trip to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic tomorrow night.

Heckingbottom’s first game in charge could come in the Scottish Cup fifth round against Raith Rovers on Saturday.

Hibs have reportedly received 100 applicants for their head coach role since Lennon’s departure.
