DISNEY have had an iron fist on the box office in recent times with the distribution of Marvel, Star Wars and all of your childhood films.
As always, 2019 is a stellar one for Disney movie magic so let’s get the lowdown on when each of these classics is scheduled for release…
Disney Release Dates 2018
Dumbo
The live action of the 1941 classic is the earliest of this year’s releases, arriving in cinemas March 29, 2019.
The re-imagined story will follow a former circus star, who returns from the war and is put in charge of a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him the laughing stock of the show.
Tim Burton is the man tasked with bringing the loveable elephant to life.
He will be joined by an all-star cast including Michael Keaton, Colin Farrell, Danny Devito, and former Bond girl Eva Green.
Aladdin
Guy Ritchie is at the helm for this live-action version of Aladdin, set for release on May 24, 2019.
Mena Massoud has been cast as Aladdin with Naomi Scott taking over the role as Jasmine.
Will Smith will be playing the iconic role of The Genie that Robin Williams made famous.
However, the film has already come in for some harsh criticism, with the crew accused of ‘browning up’ white extras to appear in the movie.
Toy Story 4
The fourth installment of the Toy Story gang will hit UK cinemas on June 21, 2019.
Toy Story was originally released in 1995 before spawning two sequels in 1999 and 2010, respectively. Overall, it has earned 7 Academy Award nominations and almost $2billion worldwide.
In 2015, Pixar president Jim Morris admitted the next installment would have more of a “standalone plot”.
Not much else is known about the plot so far except that it will feature a love story between Woody and Bo Peep and fans can rest knowing Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will once again be lending their voices to Woody and Buzz.
The Lion King
The Lion King is following in the footsteps of The Jungle Book and is returning for a live action version on July 19, 2019.
Director Jon Favreau said that he would be using more of the same virtual reality technology used in The Jungle Book.
The film boasts a staggering cast of Hollywood celebs, including Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as the young lioness Nala, and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa.
James Earl Jones is reprising his role as Mufasa while British 12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast as Scar.
More Disney Mania
Frozen 2
The most successful animated film of all time, Frozen 2 has a lot to live up to when it hits UK cinemas on November 22, 2019.
The film follows the debut of the Frozen theatre musical which opens this August and moves to Broadway next spring.
Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell will both be back as Princesses Elsa and Anna with Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee returning to direct the film.
The movie will see Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf travelling into the forest to discover one of their kingdom’s ancient mysteries.
