A WOMAN is now hoping to start a family after shedding over 10 stone by ditching fast food and takeaways.
Melissa Middlemiss, 31, from County Durham, tipped the scales at more than 20 stone, despite being just 5ft 4in tall, and was a dress size 26 at her heaviest.
But she’s slimmed down to a trim size six after losing over half her body weight by cutting out kebabs, pizza and Chinese takeaways – and her weekly food shop bill has gone down from £170 to just £40.
Melissa said her husband Phil has been very supportive throughout her journey and has even lost two-and-a-half stone himself.
“We decided that we wanted to try for a family but because of our weight we were finding it difficult to conceive. Now we have a much better chance,” she explained.
Melissa told how she piled on weight following an operation in 2016 after her bowel stopped working properly, reports Mail Online.
As she was in and out of hospital and struggled to stand and cook, she became reliant on takeaways and would comfort eat when she felt poorly.
But she’s since overhauled her diet and now prepares fresh, homemade meals for her and Phil and is much more active.
Melissa has even become a consultant for Slimming World, running weekly classes to inspire others in a similar situation and pass on her knowledge about healthy eating.
“I feel great now,” she admitted.
“I still have body image issues but I am pleased with what I’ve achieved and I’m delighted that I’m helping others reach their goals.”
She revealed she still can’t get her head around her new slim figure and still heads to the end of clothes rails in shops where the bigger sizes usually are.
Melissa said Phil, who is 6ft 4in and weighs just over 24 stone, has set himself a goal of losing a further five stone.
“He’s so supportive, he’s in my class and goes out on leaflet drops with me, in fact my whole family are really supporting us,” said Melissa.
