Broken Tories
WHAT do the Tories have to say about anything beyond Brexit? Virtually nothing.
Where are the radical plans to sort the housing crisis, or soaring crime? Or to lower taxes, as Tories always should?
New NHS cash aside, what can Theresa May’s Government boast about after nearly three years of Brexit paralysis?
Its unhinged war on our sugar intake?
Its scandalous suffocation at birth of the fracking industry?
Sneaking through new taxes on the dead?
The Tories need a brand new offer to voters, and fast.
Because if Brexit is ever sorted, they will suddenly require answers to Corbyn’s armoury of policies.
Most of those are ruinous throwbacks to the 1970s. But every day they are out there unchallenged, they gain traction.
To some voters any plan — even from Marxist extremists — is more enticing than a listless Government bereft of ideas.
Oliver’s barmy
IT’S a golden rule that anything Oliver Letwin MP recommends will be catastrophic.
It was he who told Maggie Thatcher to plough on with the hated poll tax.
Who dumped confidential letters in a public bin.
Who plotted with Hacked Off to hobble the free Press.
Who invited a burglar in at 5.15am. Who stood for election on a Tory manifesto “I didn’t believe in then and I don’t now”.
So it is useful for Theresa May to hear this chinless Old Etonian urging her to back Labour’s plan for a permanent EU customs union.
It is an elephant trap leading inexorably to the worst imaginable deal, the destruction of the Tory Party and a Corbyn Government.
A blind man could spot it.
But Letwin’s unerring stupidity does perform a valuable public service.
The PM can now be 100 per cent certain it is the very last thing she should do.
Labour’s thugs
THE hounding of Jewish Labour MP Luciana Berger by her party was despicable.
The response of Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell was truly sinister.
Labour is now so engulfed by anti-Semites that Ms Berger needed minders at her party’s conference. This week activists targeted her with no-confidence votes. McDonnell’s reaction? She must pledge loyalty to Corbyn to survive.
This is the snarling hard-left thug lurking behind the chummy persona McDonnell projects for TV cameras.
Imagine a Britain where he wields power.
