THE terror suspect arrested after a “frenzied” New Year’s Eve stabbing in Manchester which left three people injured has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Greater Manchester Police said the 25 year-old – being held on suspicion of attempted murder – was assessed by specialist medics as cops continue to search his home.

A spokesman said: “The counter-terrorism investigation remains ongoing.
“There is nothing to suggest the involvement of other people in this attack, but confirming this remains a main priority for the investigation.”
Three people, including a British Transport Police officer, were injured after being attacked on a platform at Manchester Victoria Station around 9pm on Monday.
Prime Minister Theresa May joined British Transport Police in commending the emergency services for containing the threat during the attack.

Earlier, GMP Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson had said the suspect lived in the Cheetham Hill area of the city.
Counter-terrorism officers continued to search his address on Tuesday night.
Horrified passengers had described hearing a “blood curdling scream” and were forced to run down the tracks after seeing a man wielding a 12-inch kitchen knife.
He was also heard screaming the phrase “Allahu Akbar” – Arabic for “God is great” – and “long live the Caliphate” – a possible reference to ISIS – during his arrest.
Cops confirmed the vicious attack is being treated “as a terrorism investigation”.

What we know so far:
- Three people, including a BTP officer, were injured by the knifeman around 9pm on New Year’s Eve
- Armed with two knives, he stabbed his three victims at Manchester’s Victoria station in a “frenzied” attack
- The suspect yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ and ranted about the UK’s foreign policy during the attack
- He was Tasered and pepper-sprayed at the scene before being arrested and taken away by cops
- Counter-terror police believe the attack was carried out by a “lone wolf”
- The suspect arrested on suspicion of attempted murder detained under Mental Health Act
- Cops today raided a house in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, where they believe the suspect lives
- Woman with hijab praised for helping terror attack victims

Yesterday police were also pictured raiding a home in Cheetham Hill – just a mile from the station – where the suspect lived.
Neighbours said the family moved to the UK from Somalia via Holland about 10 years ago.
The parents live with three of their four sons and a daughter in their semi-detached house.
Their eldest son, who has not been arrested, is believed to work at Manchester Airport.
Another son is understood to have returned to Somalia after allegedly being excluded from school.
The dad and sons are believed to worship at the nearby Khizra mosque.

It comes as the injured police officer and his colleagues were labelled heroes after the suspect was collared in front of terrified bystanders.
A woman with a hijab was praised online for rushing to the help the victims.
At a press briefing on Tuesday morning Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson described it as a “frenzied attack”.
He said: “We are treating this as a terrorism investigation. This investigation is being led by counter terrorism officers”.
Ian Hopkins, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, added: “This was an horrific attack on people simply out to enjoy the New Years Eve celebrations in Manchester.

“I know the events of last night will have affected many people and caused concern particularly as this happened so close to the scene of the terrorist attack on 22nd May 2017.
“This makes it an especially dreadful attack for our city.”
The incident occurred close to the Manchester Arena, where terrorist Salman Abedi murdered 22 people in a suicide bomb attack in May 2017.

The female victim was stabbed in the face and left with a “significant injury” to her forehead while her male partner suffered multiple stab wounds to the stomach, cops said.
Both victims, in their 50s, are expected to be in hospital “for some time”.
The BTP officer, in his thirties, was stabbed in the shoulder and hospitalised. He was released early yesterday morning.
Police recovered two knives at the scene but do not yet know if both were used in the attack.

Witness Sam Clack, a producer at the BBC, said cops used a Taser and pepper spray before “six or seven” officers jumped on the man who ranted about British foreign policy.
The station was last night put on lockdown as counter terror cops carried out an investigation.
Mr Clack, 38, said: “I just heard this most blood curdling scream and looked down the platform. What it looked like was a guy in his 60s with a woman of similar age and another guy all dressed in black.
“It looked like they were having a fight but she was screaming in this blood curdling way. I saw police in high-viz come towards him.
“He came towards me. I looked down and saw he had a kitchen knife with a black handle with a good, 12 inch blade. It was just fear, pure fear.”
Mr Clack, from Newcastle, said he had been out with friends for a New Year’s Eve drink in the city centre and was waiting for the East Didsbury tram home when the attack happened.
He said he heard the knifeman shouting, “Allah” during the attack.

He added: “He shouted it before, he shouted it during it – Allah.”
As police appeared “within seconds” the knifeman backed down the platform towards where he was standing alone.
He continued: “I just had a feeling in the pit of my stomach.
“Here’s a man whose very agitated, angry, skittish. It appears he had already attacked someone. He had police coming towards him and he’s coming towards me.
“I thought what I need to do is jump onto the tracks because next thing he’s going to do is turn around and stab me. He’s looking about, side to side and jumpy.
“At one point one of the police officers fired the Taser but it missed him. Then he got pepper sprayed and tasered and he went to the ground.
“The guy, his exact words were, he said, ‘As long as you keep bombing other countries, this sort of s*** is going to keep happening’.”
Mr Clack said he then realised the man in his 60s had been stabbed as there was blood “splattered” on the platform.

“He was stabbed in the head and once in the back,” he said.
“His shirt was covered in blood. His partner was 60-ish. She had a bandage on her head.”
He added: “It was scary. I have never been so scared in my life. Someone with a knife six to eight feet away, he had just stabbed someone. It was the proximity.”
Another witness, Rebekka, told The Mirror: “I heard the most bloodcurdling scream I’ve ever heard and turned to see everyone running towards me.
“Some guy told me to run. I jumped off the tram track and started to run down the tram lines and hid behind some concrete slabs under one of the arches.
“I had no idea what had happened at this point, I was just really scared, I didn’t know if I was going to die. Eventually we walked back and I’d heard people were stabbed.”

BTP Chief Inspector David Rams tweeted today: “Hugely proud of my BTP Manchester team in relation to the Victoria incident. Completely overwhelmed with the level of support for the officer. I will ensure the messages are all passed on.”
Former Manchester police chief Peter Fahy wrote: “It would certainly appear police officers showed incredible bravery in tackling the attacker at Manchester’s Victoria Station last night saving lives.”

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts, of Greater Manchester Police, said on Monday: “Tonight’s events will have understandably worried people but I need to stress that the incident is not ongoing, a man is in custody and there is currently no intelligence to suggest that there is any wider threat at this time.
“While we don’t yet know the full circumstances and are keeping an open mind, officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North West are leading on the investigation.
“This is to ensure we have all the expertise available to us and progress our investigation as soon as we possibly can.”
Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn both said the victims were in their thoughts, with Mrs May praising the “bravery” of the emergency services and Mr Corbyn highlighting their “courage response”.
There have been no major terrorist attacks in the UK for the past year but MI5 and the police say they are dealing with 700 investigations into suspected terrorism.
In 2017, there were five terrorist attacks – four in London and one in Manchester.
