MANCHESTER UNITED shelved plans to raid the January transfer market after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted he could get the best out of what he had.
Former boss Jose Mourinho was agitating for the club owning Glazer family to spend big again in this window despite an outlay of £400million on 11 players.
The club hierarchy were understandably reticent to release more funds to a manager who had already wasted tens of millions, but were willing to do it.
They were coming under pressure due to Mourinho’s constant moaning at the lack of strength in the squad, something that turned the fans’ ire on the boardroom.
But the problem is over after a potential transfer budget was avoided when Mourinho was sacked.
Conversely they have been delighted to see what Solskjaer has been able to do with the squad at his disposal.
It has not just been about high-profile players like Paul Pogba either.
The improvement in centre-back Victor Lindelof and the revival in Ander Herrera’s game have been noted at the very highest level at the club.
Indeed, while Mourinho bemoaned what was lacking in his squad, Solskajer has been at pains to emphasise just how good they are.
Solskjaer said: “Across the whole squad, whoever is called upon is ready.

“This is a squad full of good players, full of talent and full of determination.”
That squad took Solskaer on a winning run of eight straight games before that came to a halt with a 2-2 home draw with Burnley on Tuesday night.
Even then there were positives for Solskjaer to draw on as the team came back from 2-0 down with three minutes of normal time left to grab a point.
They are now just two points off a top-four spot with a trip to Leicester coming up this Sunday.
