New photo Paul Hollywood's ex-wife Alex breaks her silence on his cheating scandal

Alexandra Hollywood has broken her silence on ex-husband Paul's cheating scandal, as she compared their split to a 'fatal motorway crash.'

The 54-year-old told Prima magazine that she completely underestimated the impact her split from the Great British Bake Off judge would have, after their marriage ended in November 2017.

Alex and Paul previously split in 2013 after it was revealed he had been cheating with Marcela Valladolid, 37, but the couple reunited before divorcing for good four years later.

Speaking for the first time about her split from Paul, Alex said: 'No one should underestimate how separation and divorce can hit you.

'I compare it to a moment where you're driving along the motorway and then the next moment, something beyond your control happens and you're driving in a completely different direction. 'You have to give yourself time to get your head round it.

'Paul and I had an ordinary marriage – it lasted for 19 years with a hiccup in the middle and then an abrupt end. Now I look ahead and think about what I’ve gained; the main thing is having the freedom to do what I want to do, so it feels like a door opening. I’m feeling very positive at the moment.'

Of the son she shares with Paul - Josh, 16 - she said: 'My focus is on him and lots of what I do revolves around him. But you also have to remember to look after yourself, you’re so important as a mother so you have to be mentally and physically fit.'

Alex and Paul first split in 2013 when it revealed he had been cheating with his American Baking Competition co-host Marcela, and the couple went onto date briefly before splitting in September of that year.

Paul vowed at the time that he still loved Alex and hope they could rectify their marriage, saying on Radio Five Live: 'I had an affair in the States. It was the biggest mistake of my life - because actually I still love my wife... we are talking, working together but it's going to take time.'

The couple - who share son Josh, 15 - then ended their marriage for good in November 2017, as he fell for barmaid Summer Monteys-Fullam, 23, though he insists there was no overlap between the two relationships.

Just three weeks before the couple confirmed the end of their marriage, Paul was also seen kissing Bake Off winner Candice Brown, though representatives for the pair insisted this was nothing more than an 'innocent kiss on the cheek',

On their first split Alex admitted she has no regrets taking Paul back following his cheating - which she branded a 'hiccup' - but added that this time their marriage is over for good.

She explained: 'We all react differently and I went on automatic pilot to star with.

'I think I went through the same five stages of grief that a bereaved person does [denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance].'

She added: 'You go there in your own way, but I think it's healthy to do that. Being able to be weak is a strength, too, and it's okay to sit and have a cry. I don’t know how easy it will be to trust again, but I’d like to think I would.'

She also explained her plans for the future: 'I’m going to travel more and start scuba diving again. I’ve published two cookery books and I’m working on a third, so I spend part of every day writing and testing recipes.'

Back in August Alex had reportedly vowed to name Paul's girlfriend Summer in her divorce proceedings for Paul's £10 million fortune, as she insisted there was an overlap in the relationships.

A source told The Sun: 'Alex has filed for divorce on the grounds of adultery.

'She's fed up of the lies. For example, Summer's claim that the relationship started "way after the marriage ended".'

By naming Summer in the divorce papers, Paul would have to go into detail about his relationship with her in public.

The couple also appeared to make sly digs at each other through recipes they posted to social media in May, when Alexandra posted a snap of a berry tart on Instagram.

In the posts' caption she used hashtags for both easy and tart, leading many fans to wonder whether she was taking a swipe at Paul's younger girlfriend.
