FEWER than half the motors stolen in the UK in the past decade have been found by cops, figures reveal.
Police forces logged 522,214 nicked vehicles between 2009 and 2018 but just 236,636 — or 45 per cent — were recovered.

The revelation was branded alarming by industry experts. Drivers face a postcode lottery, with some areas significantly outperforming others.
Merseyside Police recorded 35,624 stolen in the past decade and found 26,816, a 75 per cent recovery rate.
West Midlands Police recorded 73,644 in the same period but recovered only 8,643, a 12 per cent rate.
The RAC’s Simon Williams said: “Drivers will be surprised to discover that on average less than half of vehicles stolen end up recovered. Combined with vehicle thefts rising, it’s alarming.”

The figures came in a Freedom of Information request by Auto Express.
Merseyside Police said they use “covert tactics, CCTV and forensics tools to improve our rate of recovery”.
West Midlands Police said the number recovered is “likely higher” as the 12 per cent “were with a full address”.
THE SUN SAYS
Having your car stolen is traumatic enough.
But shocking new figures show your chances of ever seeing it again depend hugely on where you live.
Police recovered fewer than one in two vehicles nicked across the UK in the past ten years.
Merseyside officers have a 75 per cent success rate, but for the Keystone Kops in the West Midlands, it’s just 12 per cent.
Police cuts are blamed, but that hardly explains such differences.
It is alarming that drivers are the victims of such a postcode lottery.
