RED RUM HANDICAP CHASE
Key trends:
- Last-time winners have a poor record
- Stick with horses carrying 11st1lb or less
- Look for runners no older than nine
- Previous Aintree form is a plus
LAST-TIME winners fare poorly so we’ll overlook the chances of Adrrastos and Movie Legend which at least knocks two out of the 18 starters.
The top four in the handicap have plenty to do at the weights — Diego Du Charmil, Forest Bihan, Lady Buttons and Theinval.
Theflyingportrait and Champagne At Tara are too old to be winning this while running last time at the Cheltenham Festival is something to look out for. That’s bad news for Demi Sang, Mcgroarty, Cracking Find, Moon Over Germany, Molineaux, Azzuri and R’evelyn Pleasure.
That has left us with a shortlist of Whatswrongwithyou, Eamon An Cnoic and Brelan D’As.
Although previous Aintree experience has helped, Eamon An Cnoic’s two spins on the Mildmay course have resulted in heavy defeats so it’s hardly a positive.
Of the other two, WHATSWRONGWITHYOU finished out well in the Grand Annual at the Festival last time and that race has been a good pointer to this.
