"Many Photos" - Woman posts 10 Year Challenge photo of her sister’s grave in a heartbreaking plea for women to attend smear tests

OVER the last few weeks, 10 Year Challenge photographs have been all over social media, giving us all a nostalgic reminder of our bad hair and dodgy fashion.

But for one woman, Sam Davies, the social media trend has a very important message for women all over the world.

Engineer Sam, took to Facebook to post an image of her sister, Liane Roberson, who passed away from cervical cancer in November 2011.

Sharing an image of Liane in 2009 alongside a poignant photograph of Liane’s two children stood beside her gravestone in 2019, Sam hopes the post will encourage more women to go for their routine smear tests.

“When Liane had her second baby in November 2010 she was quite unwell with bleeding and pain, but just put it down to complications after giving birth,” Sam told Pretty52.

“But when she went downhill and was admitted to hospital to be treated for an infection, they found something far more sinister and she was diagnosed with stage-two cancer in March 2011.”

Despite having both radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the treatment didn’t work and Liane passed away in November 2011, sadly leaving behind one-year-old son, Kieran and eight-year-old daughter, Abbie.

While Liane didn’t miss her smear test – she fell pregnant at 25 and after attending an appointment following the birth of her second baby, it was already too late – Sam urges all women to ensure they attend a smear.

“If you have the time to find and post a picture, you have the time to book your appointment,” she said.

“I understand it’s awkward, but Liane’s treatment was far more invasive and painful than an awkward smear test could ever be.”

Earlier this week, we told you at home cervical cancer kits could replace smear tests and save lives as ’embarrassment’ sees attendance drop to 20-year-low.

We also revealed size 22 mum sheds staggering 8st in 8 months – WITHOUT stepping foot in a gym.

And we showed you six million are at risk of breast cancer because they’ve NEVER checked their boobs.
