"Many Photos" - Pupil changes name of their comprehensive school Maps to 'Prison and Hell on Earth' on Google Maps

A student prankster is thought to be behind a school's name change on Google, which made it's location appear as 'Hornsea Prison & Hell on Earth'.

Hornsea School and Language College in East Yorkshire appeared under the altered name in the search engine recently.

It is believed a pupil was behind the change. The school said they are aware of who did it, but are not releasing the information.

The secondary school issued a statement saying the unauthorised listing had since been removed.

The headmaster for the school which was comprehensive founded in 1958 urged other education facilities to take steps to prevent anyone tampering with their map icon.

Head teacher Steve Ostler said: 'We recommend that all schools take ownership of their Google map icon to prevent any copy-cat behaviours.' 

Place names can be suggested to Google by anyone but must be verified by the business owner, to ensure they are the only ones who can edit them.

The school hit the headlines last year when a teacher was suspended for swearing at her class.

She was banned from teaching indefinitely.

Elizabeth Woods, a former English teacher at Hornsea School and Language College, referred to her tutor group as 't****'.

Ms Woods also stuck her middle finger up at one pupil, as it was revealed she referred to her white board pen as the 'magic pen of sex'.
