RUSSIAN Doll has been the hot topic of conversation ever since it landed on Netflix a week ago.
The ending has baffled some fans, and now it’s been revealed that things could have been very different.

The Russian Doll creator has revealed they had an alternative finale for hit show.
The series follows game developer Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) who is forced to relive her birthday party – and her gruesome death at the end of it – over and over again.
She then meets Alan (Charlie Barnett) is also stuck in the same loop which leads to him continuously dying.
In the last episode, the Nadia and Alan we’ve been following from the beginning are no longer in the same universe.
They’ve been split into two separate timelines, each of them newly charged with a sense of purpose and a desire to live.
But the twist is they’re paired with the past versions of each other – meaning they have to help each other (but they don’t actually know each other – still following us?)
By using the dual timelines, we get to see just how far both characters have progressed and this allows the strong versions of themselves to help the other.
Nadia and Alan’s final task is to help each other out of the loop.
This complicated ending has had fans scratching their heads, and now it turns out things could have been very different for Nadia and Alan.
When asked if they knew about the twist at the end when they started writing the show, co-creator Leslye Headland told Vanity Fair: “Actually, no. We initially had a different ending, though at this point, I would be hard-pressed to remember exactly what it was.
“I think it was probably something not as complicated as what we ended up doing.
“But the thought was always that these two people need each other in some way—and they’re going to need to put aside their own flaws and self-loathing and demons in order to help that person.”
Explaining that very complicated real ending, she said: “I think Natasha (Natasha Lyonne, also a co-creator) and I kind of agree on this truism, and it’s not something that is new to the world.

“There’s this prayer by St. Francis that’s like, ‘Help me seek to understand rather than be understood, to love than to be loved, to forgive in order to be forgiven,’ it’s something like, ‘For it is by forgetting that one finds, and it is by dying that one finds eternal life.’ I mean, I’m paraphrasing.
“Obviously it’s not a religious show or anything like that, but it’s like that truism that your real purpose is fulfilled by when that energy stops going inward and starts going outward.
“But I think the trick was, how do you set that up? It’s not enough for your characters to just be like, ‘Great. We got everything back. Let’s get the DeLorean back to the future.’ It had to be something more kind of challenging, and more emotionally driven than that.”
