ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC revealed how he spoke with Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof to inspire the defender to overcome his poor run of form.

Lindelof has made 25 appearances for United this season, starting 22 times in the league – though the Swede suffered a more inconsistent run in the side last term.

Jose Mourinho brought the center-back to Old Trafford from Benfica for £31million in 2017, but he made just 20 stars in all competitions in his debut year.

This season, however, the 24-year-old has missed just four league matches with three of those games due to injury.

Former United striker Ibrahimovic told BetHard how he spoke to his countrymen and told him he was in England “to survive” – informing the centre-back that he could easily be sold.

Ibrahimovic said: “I think he had a difficult time in the beginning, but I think that is typical Swedish. When you come somewhere, you are friendly to everybody.

“You play, you don’t play, you still feel in friendly situation.

“I explained to him, ‘listen, all these players are conquerors. You’re here to survive. You’re not here to be friendly to everybody so you need to perform’.

“‘If you don’t perform, the club has no problems with selling [you], that’s the way it is’.

“And I think he’s been doing good lately. He’s playing much more after a first year of struggling.

“I think he has more confidence when he plays.

“Hopefully he can continue and be strong mentally because I don’t think it’s about the quality, it’s more in the head.

“I’ve always said 50 per cent is in your head. It doesn’t matter how good you are, if you can’t make it mentally, you will not survive.”

Lindelof has started all eight of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Premier League matches since the club legend took over from Mourinho as caretaker boss in December.
