EMILIANO Sala’s grieving cousin has demanded a full investigation into the footballer’s death claiming “he was killed”.
Martin Gatti made the allegation after paying his last respects to his relative yesterday in the small Argentinian town of Progreso where the Cardiff City striker grew up.
The probe by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch is ongoing and is expected to take around a year to complete.
It is expected to focus on the chain of events that led to part-time gas boiler engineer David Ibbotson, 59, piloting the single-engine Piper Malibu that mega-agent Willie McKay had arranged for Cardiff’s record signing.
Emiliano’s cousin, who along with another cousin and an aunt were the only relatives to speak to press after yesterday’s wake, said: “It was an avoidable tragedy.
“This is a very personal point of view but there were a lot of irregularities that I’m sure the courts will have to investigate.
“It can’t just end up like this, with the plane crashing and it being written off as a simple accident with the deaths of two people and nothing more than that.
‘IT WAS AN AVOIDABLE TRAGEDY’
“They have to start looking into this from the very beginning, from scratch, from point zero, from when they signed the contract, who put him on that plane, who organised the plane, who hired the pilot and why he was sent alone and without his representatives.
“Did any of his representatives come to his funeral? No.”
Asked for his analysis of the situation by a local TV station he added: “For me Emiliano was killed.
“There were a lot of vested interests, and when there’s a lot of money involved there are people who don’t care about the lives of others.”
Mr Gatti insisted Sala’s family shared his view the footballer had not received proper care.
He added: “The plane crashed at night and in bad weather conditions and he was alone.

“It’s a very personal feeling but Emi’s family feel the same way I do. I’ve spoken to his gran and his father. Everything was done wrong. That poor lad wasn’t protected properly. It was all very irregular.
“For me this wasn’t an accident. There were irregularities that caused an accident.”
Last night Berenice Schkair, an Argentinian model who has been romantically linked to the striker, pinned the “football mafia” tweet she published after the light aircraft disappeared over the Channel near Guernsey on January 21.

She had backtracked on the tweet and removed it from her public profile.
But in the early hours of this morning she pinned the original tweet making sure it was the first message followers saw when they accessed her social media profile.
The tweet, written in Spanish, translates into English as: “Investigate the football mafia because I don’t believe this accident.”
