A BURGLAR was battered by a householder after breaking in to steal two laptops.
Dale Graham, 35, and an accomplice were discovered when David Pike and his partner returned from a party early on New Year’s Day.
David, 63, said: “We grabbed him. There was a massive struggle and he knocked over a wine- rack. A bottle hit him right on his head.”
Carlisle crown court heard the thief, with 139 previous convictions, was left “covered in blood”.
Judge James Adkin said: “There was some rough justice meted out.”

Graham, from Carlisle, said he thought he was going to a party — adding: “This fella’s cracked me and started smashing bottles all over my head.”
But he admitted burglary and was jailed for two years.
A second burglar fled with two laptops and has not been traced.
