Who are the Bafta 2019 Outstanding British Film nominees?

The film industry has produced some stellar work this year.

To be eligible for nomination as Outstanding British Film, a movie “must have significant creative involvement by individuals who are British”.

Here’s the shortlist of the best British work as selected by the institution:

  • 2017’s psychological thriller, ‘Beast’

  • Biography of the rock band Queen, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

  • Historical period comedy-drama about Queen Anne, ‘The Favourite

  • Biographical film of fashion designer Alexander McQueen, ‘McQueen’

  • Film about famous comedy duo Laurel and Hardy, ‘Stan and Ollie’

  • Psychological crime thriller starrign Joaquin Phoenix, ‘You Were Never Really Here’

What are the latest odds on the winner?

Based on critical reception and performance at the recent Golden Globes, Bohemian Rhapsody or The Favourite are likely to take the crown

The bookies are yet to release their odds for the Outstanding British Film category.

But based on critical reception and performance at the recent Golden Globes, Bohemian Rhapsody or The Favourite are likely to take the crown.

William Hill has given Best British Film nominee The Favourite the odds of winning 11/10 in the wider Best Film category.

So it’s reasonable to assume that the film starring Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz is in with a good shot for Best British Film.

When are this year’s Bafta awards?

This year’s Bafta awards will take place on February 10th at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Since 2002 the ceremony has been held in February to precede the Oscars and AMPAS ( Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’.)

This is to ensure they take place during the film industry’s ‘awards season.’

Before that they had been held in April or May.
