BRITS are set to be smashed with 70mph high speed ice winds this week.
A mild weekend will lull most of us into a false sense of security, because there are yellow weather warnings in place for violent gusts in the north and Scotland on Tuesday.
Freezing and bitter wind chills will make it feel like -10C in some parts of the country next week.
The coldest night of the winter so far was experienced in Scotland on Wednesday into Thursday, with Braemar in Aberdeenshire reaching -10.5C.
But powerful winds could replicate a similar chill in a few days as the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for Monday and Tuesday.
Metereologist Simon Partridge told The Sun Online: “Temperatures could well be feeling closer -10C because of the wind chill effect but the temperature on your thermometers won’t actually be that low.”

And there may be worse to come following the polar vortex break-up, known as Sudden Stratospheric Warming, which could lead to another Beast from the East sweeping in from the second half of January.
Snow is set to fall in the UK — with medics warning a polar vortex could trigger NHS “mayhem”.
Temperatures already dropped to -6.3C in Balmoral, Aberdeenshire, overnight and the cold snap will continue over the weekend.
Meteorologist Becky Mitchell said this could bring in “very cold wind and significant snow”.
Dr Nick Scriven, president of the Society for Acute Medicine, said the cold snap would heap pressure on overstretched NHS services.
He said: “Influenza is here and is already impacting the NHS and, with colder weather starting to set in, this will further stress already stretched services.
“I and many colleagues across the country are anticipating mayhem this weekend as temperatures drop, but it will come as no surprise to us.”
A cold weather alert was issued for the Midlands and northern England.
The level two alert is for social and healthcare services in northern and western areas until midnight tonight as there is a severe health risk for vulnerable patients in the freezing conditions.
Dr Emer O’Connell, public health consultant at Public Health England, said: “Every winter thousands of people die a death that is linked to cold.
“For the next few days it is really important for us all to keep a look out for the people we know who could be affected, and make sure they get the help and support they need to stay well this winter.”

As the weekend draws to a close, temperatures in some parts of the country will creep into double digits as colder air moves away.
However 70mph gusts will batter northern parts of Scotland on Monday and Tuesday as a low-pressure weather system will bring gale-force winds.
Snow could also fall in the north of the country as a north-westerly wind brings showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
