Viewers were left shocked as a masked killer stalked a victim on the top deck of a London bus.

Characters were electrocuted, shot at and stabbed.

More than 4.6million viewers watched the Idris Elba crime thriller, with some not happy with the super dark twists laid out by writer Neil Cross.

Hermione, 51, says great drama is bound to cause a big reaction.

She said: “Job well done if people are feeling that – Neil is achieving what he set out to do.

“He’s very good at preying on our deepest psychological fears.

“It’s Luther, it’s about serial killers, it’s a frightening drama. Neil doesn’t shy away from scaring people.”

But Hermione did admit that she was as scared and shaken by the gritty four-part series.

One viewer agreed tweeting: “In the space of two nights Luther has put me off of getting a bus, therapists, surgery and selling things online. I might never leave the house again.”

Idris Elba may be a tough guy, who could be in line, to play James Bond, but he says he’s a wimp when it comes to spooky films and shows.

And Hermione is on board, saying: ““I can’t go and see horror films, I don’t like scary things.

“I’d probably be with Idris watching Shrek myself.”

Luther is an award-winning BBC detective drama following the troubled and volatile DCI John Luther,

Viewers spotted a big blunder in the episode – with the time of day magically changing within scenes.

Fans are convinced Alice Morgan is still ALIVE after she plunged off scaffolding in the series 5 finale.
